Effects and uses of Todomatsu essential oil
We spoke to Emi Shionoya, owner of HOLIDAY MARKET TOYA, who kindly agreed to be the HIKOBAYU ambassador.
HOLIDAY MARKET TOYA
This small shop is located in Toyako Onsen Town in Shikotsu-Toya National Park. It sells items related to food, clothing and shelter that are close to daily life while valuing the "everyday life of adults." The shopkeeper, Shionoya-san, stocks items that he himself has selected to match the metronome of his heart at any given time, such as easy-to-use and accessible household items, comfortable clothing, books that resonate with you, and things that will make you chuckle.

− How did you discover HIKOBAYU’s Todomatsu essential oil?
It all started when Kayoko-san came to our store. The aroma of the products filled the store. The smell was so pleasant that I can't forget it. When I talked to her, I learned that they distill their own products in Niseko, so we talked about how we would like to hold a fair when the timing is right. The timing was right at the end of summer, and when we were in the stage of planning the fair, I started to learn more about them on their website and I felt drawn to them more and more. I think that their passion and everything in general is really great.
− Please tell us about the effects and impressions you felt after using Todomatsu essential oil.
My previous job was as a therapist, so essential oils were not something that was so far away from me, and it wasn't difficult to know how to use them in my daily life.
I have learned a lot about the appeal and efficacy of Niseko Todomatsu essential oil through my own body, but the most appealing thing about it is that it has really regulated my sleep rhythm, allowing me to sleep very soundly.
The fact that Todomatsu essential oil purifies the air must also regulate breathing, and when breathing is regulated, the autonomic nervous system relaxes, and when the nervous system relaxes, you can sleep comfortably. I think that this is a natural cycle that matches the body.
- When do you use it?
I often use it in the bath. Recently, I've also been using it for self-massage after the bath. I dilute it with sweet almond oil to about 1% and massage the areas of concern like my neck and shoulders. You get used to the scent, so I use it with a little time in between, but I find that Japanese Siberian Fir helps me sleep really soundly.
Also, from now on, cold viruses can get in through the mucous membranes. I mix it with Vaseline and rub it into my nose. I rub it in and out. lol Also, I got a full set of scents at the fair. They have all kinds of scents, so I use them according to my mood. I like just Japanese fir, but today I'm using Onsen Spa, and when it gets cold, the yuzu blend is also very good.
- Are there any points you should be careful of when using it?
My child is a little sensitive, so if you use it too much in a row, he says it stings. I think you should be a little careful if you use it together in the bath. Recently, I've been trying to use it after my child has left the house, and other things. But I really like the Todomatsu spray, and I spray it on him before he goes to bed, and he's really happy when I spray it on his knitted cap recently. I think the spray is safer for children, and a pleasant scent is good for children. As we get older, our taste and smell start to seek stimulation, but for a pure sense of smell, familiar, uncomplicated scents may be better.
− What would you like to convey to people who are new to Todomatsu essential oil?
For those who have never used essential oils, we recommend 30g (2 tablespoons) of natural salt. I would recommend adding 1-2 drops of todomatsu essential oil to your bath as bath salts. Essential oils are different from synthetic fragrance oils. If you take a foot bath or a full-body bath, they will enter your nose as steam, and you can actually take them into your body through your skin. It's also easy to use, so I recommend it as a more advanced way to use essential oils. You can also dilute it by mixing it with massage oil or petrolatum. Todomatsu ingredients are good for allergies and pollen, and especially in the coming dry season, I highly recommend mixing it with petrolatum to prevent viruses. Just be careful about the dilution percentage and start with a small amount of less than 1%.
− What do you think are the unique advantages, characteristics and appeals of HIKOBAYU’s Sakhalin fir products?
The story of the Sawada couple begins in the forest. They don't just do it to get essential oils, but they don't throw them away, but instead collect the branches and leaves that have been cut down, and distill them to make the oil. That's what really drew me in. Up until then, essential oils were either from overseas or you just bought the ones that were already on display as essential oils, but I was amazed to see that they were making essential oils in a place close to home, properly branding them, and even selling them as products. And the quality of the essential oils is so high! The scent is also so gentle. Many tree-based oils have quite sharp scents, but the fir essential oil has a really gentle scent. It blends well with other essential oils. It's so charming, it makes you feel like it's such a gentle essential oil. I think it's not just the essential oil, but the whole effort that goes into HIKOBAYU's fir essential oil. I think that's what makes it so unique.
− Please give a message to those who are considering using this product.
Todomatsu essential oil starts by purifying the air, and by purifying the air, breathing becomes deeper and the autonomic nervous system becomes more balanced. Everyone has stress in their daily lives. I think it's good to use essential oils in an environment where you can take a little time for yourself during the day . It's good to use it after your family has gone to bed, or in a space where you can just be yourself. Also, sauna! If you like saunas, you can also use it by dripping it inside a sauna hat. I think it's a lot of fun to start thinking about how you can use it in your own lifestyle and start finding out.
